Election year is here, and as politicians, pundits, and reporters analyze every subgroup in the electorate to try and predict their votes, we take a step back and look at how changes in the Latino community might affect the upcoming presidential race. For this discussion, Maria Hinojosa speaks with veteran journalist and professor at USC Annenburg, Roberto Suro.

Roberto Suro is a distinguished journalist and a professor at the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism and the School of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of Southern California. He is also the director of the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute. Prior to joining the USC faculty, Suro founded the Pew Hispanic Center and served as its director.

María Emilia Martin is a pioneering public radio journalist with over two dozen awards for her work covering Latino issues and Latin America. She started her career at the first community public radio station owned and operated by Latinos in the U.S. She has developed ground-breaking programs and series for public radio, including NPR’s Latino USA, and Despues de las Guerras: Central America After the Wars. A recipient of Fulbright and Knight Fellowships, she has extensive experience in journalism and radio training, in the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, Bolivia and other countries.

Angelo Falcón is President and Co-Founder of the National Institute for Latino Policy (NiLP). Falcón has been able to combine academic and policy research with an aggressive advocacy style based on broad coalition-building and community organizing. He has become one of the longest-serving chief executives of a Latino non-profit in the country.
