Alex Avila
Senior Producer

Alex AvilaAlex Avila is Latino USA's Senior Producer and is responsible for the overall production of the show.

His professional journalism experience includes stints as Editor of the National Hispanic Journal (1984-1986), Managing Editor of Arriba Art & Business News (1991-1995), and Assistant Editor of Hispanic Magazine (1996-1997). He first came to Latino USA in January 1998 as an acting producer. In September 1998, he became part of LUSA's permanent staff. In 2002, he was awarded a "Golden Reel" by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters in the National News/Public Affairs Programming category for overseeing Latino USA's coverage of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.

Recently, Mr. Avila has emerged as a budding academic. As an advanced masters student in Journalism Research & Theory at the University of Texas at Austin, he has conducted original social science research into the growing podcast audience. In the Fall of 2007, he joined the faculty of St. Edward's University in Austin as an adjunct communications professor.
