NEWS

Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa and Univision's Maria Elena Salinas speak about news issues of the week affecting the Latino community.

TORTILLA PRICES

Corn was first harvested in Mexico more than 10 thousand years ago. The ancient civilizations of Meso America considered the grain itself a diety. Images of corn appear in their mural and stone carvings. Today corn is still the most basic part of the Mexican diet. Both rich and poor Mexicans eat several corn tortillas a day. But when prices for the grain hit record highs recently, poor Mexicans suffered the most. It turns out that Mexico's entry into global economics is part of the reason behind the price hike. Latino USA's Franc Contreras has more from Mexico City.
