SUMMER MUSIC IN NEW ORLEANS

It's July, and summer festivals are in full swing across the nation. And each part of the country has it's own musical heritage that is often featured during these months, but some of those traditions are clearly changing. For example, New Orleans music traces its roots not only to Africa and Europe, but also to the Caribbean, and the music is constantly re-inventing itself. New Orleans is now home to a number of innovative Latin bands that are adding some salsa to the city's musical gumbo. Independent producer Reese Erlich met some of those musicians at the recent New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and brings us this report.
