September 28, 2007 Full program MP3, 29 minutes.NEWS Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa and Univision's Maria Elena Salinas speak about news issues of the week affecting the Latino community. JUAN MANUEL GARCIA PASSALCQUA Maria speaks with Puerto Rican political analyst Juan Manuel Garcia Passalacqua about issues affecting the Puerto Rican community. PUERTO RICAN ECONOMY For decades, Puerto Rico has been touted as a crucial economic link between the U.S. and other countries in the western hemisphere. But heavy competition from other countries offering companies cheaper labor and a bounty of tax incentives is taking a severe toll on the economy of the U.S. commonwealth. That's been no more evident than in the spate of recent plant closures in the manufacturing sector, which accounts for about 40 percent of the island's GDP. Latino USA's Lakshmi Singh brings us this report from Ponce, Puerto Rico, where many residents are still reeling from the impact of factory shutdowns across the island. LOS PLENEROS DE 21 Maria speaks with members of the group Los Pleneros de 21 about their latest album, "Para Todos Ustedes." |
