October 19, 2007 Full program MP3, 29 minutes.NEWS Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa and Univision's Maria Elena Salinas speak about news issues of the week affecting the Latino community.
Week in Review Each week, Latino USA Host Maria Hinojosa discusses the Week in Review with Maria Elena Salinas, national news anchor for Univision, the Spanish language television network. This Week: Latino USA Host Maria Hinojosa speaks with Univision News Anchor Maria Elena Salinas about the changing time schedule for the Presidential primaries and how the Latino vote could matter in the nomination process in 2008; how the immigration issue is being viewed by Latino voters as an "anti-Latino" issue; and the tremendous growth of the Latino electorate. SAM QUINONES Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa speaks with Los Angeles Times reporter Sam Quinones about his book, Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration. NOT IN THE SHADOWS Many who oppose illegal immigration often suspect that those who are here illegally hide and are always looking over their shoulders. But as Julie Moody reports, those who enter the country illegally aren't invisible. They hide in the wide open. And they have no problems finding a job or a place to live. Still, it isn't as easy as some might think. COMMUNITIES AND IMMIGRATION The debate over immigration has been a part of our political discourse for over a century, and for nearly every wave of migrants arriving to the United States, there has been a backlash. Now, In the face of the largest surge of immigrants in U.S. history, a lack of federal action has moved the debate to the local level. As KUT's Ben Philpott reports, some municipalities are trying to incorporate or exclude the immigrants in their communities. ANA'S STORY KUT's Mose Buchele produced this audio postcard of 11-year-old Ana Vega telling what her life is like with immigrant parents. |
