November 16, 2007 Full program MP3, 29 minutes.WEEK IN REVIEW Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa and Univision's Maria Elena Salinas speak about news issues of the week affecting the Latino community. LATINO VOTER MOBILIZATION A coalition of various Latino organizations, including the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, and the National Council of La Raza, kick off a new effort of outreach to Latino voters that includes public service announcements and town hall meetings to get as many Hispanics registered and ready to vote in the year's presidential elections. The groups say that while immigration is not the only issue the Latino community cares about, it certainly is one that they think will drive more people to the polls and make the Latino vote one of the key factors in the outcome of the 2008 vote. Latino USA's Patricia Guadalupe has more from Washington. 3WAY: MINORITY POLITICAL ISSUES Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa speaks to New America editors Roberto Lovato and Earl Ofari Hutchison about political issues of interest to the Latino and Black communities. AFTERMATH: MEXICO FLOODING It's been more than two weeks since the Mexican state of Tabasco was hit by record floods. Although the number of deaths were low, the level of destruction has many comparing the disaster to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The flooded rivers are slowly receding, and several parts of the state remain underwater. Latino USA's Franc Contreras traveled to Tabasco and accompanied residents as they returned home. GRUPO FANTASMA Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa speaks with Adrian Quesada and Jose Galeano of the band Grupo Fantasma on their most recent album, Comes Alive. THANKSGIVING COMMENTARY Commentator Yvette Benavides shares a Thanksgiving memory. |
