April 18, 2008 Full program MP3, 29 minutes.WEEK IN REVIEW Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa and Univision's Maria Elena Salinas speak about news issues of the week affecting the Latino community. CUBAN AGRICULTURAL REFORMS Today, gas prices are unbelievable, and even basic groceries leave a big dent in your pocketbook, but for most of us here in the United States, at least there is food on the shelves. Globally, there is simply not enough food to go around. The president of the World Bank recently stated that skyrocketing food prices will likely lead to violence and upheaval in many countries…and to bring that point home, protests and riots over food prices in Haiti, led to the ousting of that country's prime minister over the weekend. In nearby Cuba, new president Raul Castro is seeking to make chronic food shortages a think of the past, and is introducing reforms to the socialist agriculture industry. From Havana, contributor Reese Erlich sent this report on Cuba's new efforts to feed the people. MORAIMA CRESPO Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa talks with recent Cuban immigrant Moraima Crespo about the changes happening in Cuba. ALEX CUBA Latino USA's Maria Hinojosa speaks with Alex Cuba about his latest album, Agua del Pozo. |
