Ruben Salazar was one of the figures of the Chicano struggle who did his best to convey to non-Latinos the problems and concerns of Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles. He died tragically at the age of forty-two while trying to avoid violence, and in the process of covering the news. He wrote about the identity and class struggles Latinos still experience today.
