In California last spring, a proposed amendment called SCA5 would have brought back race-conscious admissions. Vocal protest from some Asian Americans painted SCA5 as discriminatory, and the media focused on this opposition, saying Asian Americans were anti-affirmative action. Yet we know that isn’t true – a majority of Asian Americans do support affirmative action, along with many API civil rights organizations. So what happened, and what’s the future of affirmative action in California?
