Latino USA talks about people who work themselves to the bone: from a store owner in Michigan to the Latinas who really run Hollywood. We learn what it means to be a workaholic.

I’m incredibly happy that a podcast on workaholic Latinos/as was created by the show. The point I liked the most is how Latinos/as are taught from day one to be workaholics, which goes against stereotypes about Latinos/as. However, the workaholic theme was not consistent throughout. The middle of the piece dropped the topic altogether. Also, the negative effects of working too much – heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes (from poor diet because of strenuous work hours) – were all left out. Latinos/as suffer from these health issues often because they are doing the work of five people. Finally, there isn’t much variety in terms of countries of origin. That’s incredibly important to have when you use the word “Latino/a,” which implies an all-encompassing group. That said, thanks so much for your work on an important topic.
