A new Facebook video from HuffPost Latino Voices features what U.S. Olympian Brenda Martinez is doing to not forget about her roots.
Last year, Martinez, who is running in the 1,500-meter race this summer in Rio, shared her thoughts on Instagram:
I remember when I was young and my parents couldn’t afford to buy me a new pair of running shoes. The shoes I wore to school were the same shoes I wore to practice. My father would always try to find running shoes on the clearance rack. I’m donating back to the sport that gave me a fighting chance in the world. I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for running.
This is wonderful!!! Many blessings ar coming your way Ms. Martinez
Run tough, all America will be watching. I won’t be cheering you on because you are Hispanic but because you are an American. Represent us well in Rio, good luck and run fast.
