After a year of heated political discussions at family gatherings and on social media, the Canino Vazquez family is trying to find ways to come together.
Juan, the youngest, is a police officer in Florida and voted for Donald Trump. Rosangela, a self-described progressive living in Michigan, voted for Hillary Clinton after supporting Bernie Sanders in the primary. The oldest sibling, Ana, lives in upstate New York and also voted for Hillary.
We first met the family in 2015 when reporting on the diversity of “the Latino vote.”
The day after the election, we checked in with this Puerto Rican family via video chat for an emotionally-charged chat.
