You can only imagine the pressure that comes with recreating an iconic song, especially one from a legendary band that you respect and have loved for years. Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno faced that huge feat when she reinterpreted rock band Blondie’s 1980s hit “Call Me”  for the film, How To Be A Latin Lover.

“I went in wondering if a Spanish version of such an iconic song would work and to my surprise Blondie had already recorded one back in the day of which they did a great adaptation of,” Moreno told Latino USA. “That made me less nervous on recording such an iconic song, whether it be in English or Spanish.”

Moreno shared that she finished the song in just a few takes and the result is just as fun and fierce as the original Blondie track. And for those who don’t speak Spanish, don’t worry, you can still sing along with part of the hook–”Call me!”

“Seeing and hearing it on screen was fantastic- a visceral and surreal moment for me all wrapped into one feeling almost,” said Moreno. “I hope the folks who go see the movie like it as well and at the end of the day I had a lot of fun because I approached the song simply as a big fan of the track and the band and really wanted to be respectful and do the song justice.”

The comedy How To Be A Latin Lover, featuring Eugenio Derbez and Salma Hayek, and the film’s soundtrack will be out April 28.
