This week, NBC Latino highlighted a young Latino mayor named James Diossa, who brought Rhode Island’s Central Falls back from bankruptcy after he took office in 2012 at the age of 27.
At the time Diossa, son of Colombian parents, became mayor, the city of Central Falls was “shocked by scandal; former mayor Charles Moreau had been indicted on corruption changes and the city had declared bankruptcy.”
“Central Falls has turned a page on bankruptcy and turned a page on this dark path,” Diossa, now 32, said in the video.”We’ve now shown the state and the country that we’ve come back.”
