Soccer chants What would soccer be without fans? And what would a match feel like without them chanting at the top of their lungs? Chants are a way to express joy, patriotism, and frustration. They can also be funny, vulgar, and harmful.   We bring you a special episode from our own Futuro Studios’ podcast  American Futbol.  Host Fernanda Echavarri speaks with Andrew Lawn, author of the book, “We Lose Every Week: A History of Football Chanting.” They dive into the history of soccer chants, the best ones of the 2026 World Cup, and look into where US fans stand compared to the rest of the world.   “To me, it feels very awkward. It feels very cringey. It’s too kind of sappy, I guess would be the word that I would use,” said Lawn.   “I think the US are heading in a positive direction, but they don’t have this tradition, this culture of soccer fandom in the same way that Europe does. And at the moment, it feels a little forced.”     Futuro+ CTA Want to support our independent journalism?
