Most of us grew up flipping to the horoscope section in magazines. Maybe you waited for that weekly hit with celebrity astrologer Walter Mercado — the one where he went through every zodiac sign to let you know what to expect that week, dressed with robes and gowns of vibrant colors, adorned with jewelry clothes and his signature goodbye, “con mucho, mucho amor.” Or maybe you have a full-blown astrology practice and plan your days and weeks according to the way the stars and planets are aligned. Whatever your feelings on astrology are, it is by no means new, and it is experiencing a renaissance, with online astrology pages reaching billions of social media followers. For some, astrology is a way to live by.

‌So here at Futuro Media we decided to create a new show called Stars and Stars with Isa, a podcast hosted by astrologer Isa Nakazawa, created in collaboration with Stitcher Podcasts. On each episode, Isa speaks with one of today’s most talented artists, thinkers and musicians to read their birth charts and discuss how that affects their work and how they move through the world. Guests like aja monet, W. Kamau Bell, Jia Tolentino and Roxane Gay have all sat down with Isa and left feeling more empowered, and in tune with their innermost desires.

‌Based in Oakland, CA, Isa grew up in a Uruguayan-Japanese household. After growing up as a social justice activist, she started studying astrology more seriously in 2018 and took the leap to cultivate her own client practice in 2020.

‌Today on Latino USA we do something a little different than what we normally do. We sit down with Isa to discuss the new show and get to know her more. Even if you think astrology isn’t real, Isa shows us how we are in charge of our own lives and destinies and we can use astrology to enhance and understand ourselves more than ever in this changing world. She also prepared a surprise for our host Maria Hinojosa – a short reading of her birth chart. Something she’s never done before, and we’re excited to share it with you.
